Man vs. Wasteland
with bear grylls
Within The Next 5 Years,
a vast range of our natural environments will disappear or be covered in trash.
Man vs. Wasteland chronicles what it will take to survive in earth’s newest habitat: landfills.
Follow Bear Grylls as he learns how to navigate this treacherous terrain in our three-part series.
Episode one
SHELTER
As Bear’s journey begins, he seeks refuge among the waste and rubble. But in a land like this, is anywhere habitable?
Episode TWO
WATER
As thirst sets in, Bear searches for any water he can find. Unfortunately the only liquid around, are the pools of leachate.
Episode THREE
FOOD
Among the waste, there are plenty of dining options for Bear to choose from; so long as he considers old scraps and waste edible.
For Earth day, we’ve designed a limited supply line of gear recycled from our featured landfill. Buying recycled or used gear keeps excess product out of wastelands and preserves the nature you’re buying if for.
BYOG
DISAPPEARING SHORELINES
Global warming means disappearing coasts, so we’ve designed gear to get you accustomed to future beach culture on the shores of Kansas.
This scuba mask and flipper set will help you comb the beach for shells.
A buoyancy wallet will keep your vacay money crisp for those souvenirs.
A waterproof bag will protect your sunscreen and trashy romance novel from the rising water.
the Dead sea
The sea will still be dead by 2050, if by dead you mean a desert.
Soon you'll be familiar with the lack of water in this plentiless sea.
To prepare you for dead sea life, use this mask to keep dust out of your burning lungs.
A walking stick and pick all in one, this helps to de-saltify your shoes as it builds up over your long walk.
Enjoy this water backpack hook-up for the re-hydration of your flaky dry skeleton.
national glacier park
As the glaciers melt, water only continues to rise. So we designed a special thermal suit created to withstand a trip on the glaciers. If there are any left.
Safety rope and pick included in case you find yourself on the underbelly of the ice.
Flotation device built-in for when you inevitably go under.
Footwear designed to step over thin sheets of evaporating ice.
It’s not all gooey smells and disasters... yet.
You can still ward off the landfills from inching closer and closer to your backyard.
What You Can Do
Purchase Used Gear
Recycle
1
Sell your threads
Trashed clothes are the number one contributor to landfills.
So instead of saying “bye-bye”
to a beloved jacket, sell it
to our used gear program to fund another human’s warmth.
2
RECHARGE
With rechargeable batteries.
Recharging is cost effective and keeps disposable batteries out
of landfills, preventing battery acid from mixing with rainwater and poisoning the ground beneath it.
3
visit nature
To keep National Parks alive
and well, keep attendance high
to discourage government
zoning and deforestation efforts. Public interest in nature increases its value in the eyes
of the law.
